Motion Analysis
A machine builder needed to verify a 30 year old design prior to making improvements. What you see is a mild steel bolted assembly that is actuated by an air cylinder. Viewing this model allowed us to quickly test the adjustment points of the system. It also helped the machine builder communicate the progress to their end user. It also provided valuable geometry information so that we could apply proper machine guarding.

Machine Retrofit and Upgrade
A steel processor had to update the controls on its aging equipment. They hired a panel shop who did all the electrical work and I handled the mechanical upgrades and integration. What you see here is a large motor driving a winding station. I designed a clever way to mount the new motor (not shown) so that downtime was minimized. I carefully measured (reverse-engineered) and researched the existing components so that everything fit the first time.I collaborate well with all systems integrators to bring my mechanical expertise. Taking care of the end-user is job #1 and I know how to be a trusted subcontactor and even serving as an on-site project manager.

Facility Layout
A large fabrication shop needed to visualize their equipment on the production floor to plan for new equipment. What you see is a screenshot of Microsoft Excel file showing the layout.By creating a scaled rendition of the shop floor in a spreadsheet, it enabled all stakeholders to actively participate because they could move the Excel objects around. It eliminated the need for specialized software like AutoCAD during the early stages of planning. The final result was an optimized facility layout that satisfied everyone involved.

Designs for Metal Fabrication and Welding
Specifying the correct material and creating and designs and blueprints that make the process easy is what I do. For example, proper weld callouts can affect how the final product looks. Whether it's 304 stainless steel, A36 mild steel, or A2 tool steel, or any other grade, proper material selection and (finishing treatments) is key to the best designs. Good 'ol 6061 aluminum is one my favorites too!I work closely with the fabricators that my clients' use so that I understand their capabilities. By doing this, costs are controlled and delivery times are quicker.
